What We Do
MBS produces many local, Kansai-based television programs including "Chichin Puipui," a popular weekday-afternoon live show featuring mainly local topics and stories. Also, "Seyanen" reports on the week’s hottest topics and latest sports news with a variety of guest commentators. It has been acknowledged as Saturday morning’s "must-see" show. For weekday late-night broadcasts, there is a line-up of entertainment shows presented by popular TV personalities different each day of the week. These shows are very popular amongst young viewers.
MBS also produces programs for national broadcasting as part of the Japan News Network (JNN), a nationwide network of television stations with TBS as the key station. Some of the popular MBS productions include the documentary "Jonetsu Tairiku" (A Passionate Challenger) - a weekly series which follows the life of renowned persons in their field and beyond, and variety shows such as "Sekai no Nihonjinzuma wa Mita" (Living Overseas: In the Eyes of Japanese Wives), "Pre-bato" ("Pressure Battles" where TV personalities compete with each other in such fields as "Haiku" [short forms of Japanese poetry] or flower arrangements), and "Hayashi Sensei ga Odoroku Hatsumimigaku" (First time-to-hear Knowledge Which Also Astonishes Instructor Hayashi). These have become some of the favorite "prime time" shows in Japan. Another MBS production is "Saturday Plus" broadcast nationwide on Saturday mornings. This information program introduces its audience to ideas on enriching people’s lives based on the subjects of "life, money, and the mind."
MBS is also known for its broadcast of anime programs. "MY HERO ACADEMIA" which has been serialized in a popular comic magazine, "Weekly Shonen Jump" is one such example of a nationwide anime program. MBS has late-night TV slots titled "Anime-ism," "Anime Shower" and "Special Anime Zone" respectively for anime fans.
